Family History Research:

Many people enjoy doing their own family history research, inspired by family history programs on TV and enabled by the ever growing online genealogical resources.  However, perhaps you don’t enjoy or don’t have the luxury of time for internet research, nor want to visit archives to view records.  Maybe you have already made a start, but have hit a brick wall or just want your work checked over by someone with more experience.  Perhaps you wish to gift a research project to someone.  How can we help?

We can undertake research projects of various sizes, from just finding details of a single ancestor, to researching multiple ancestral lines.   We can start research from scratch or pick up from your own research.   We can provide an expert review of your work, to check its validity and to suggest further avenues of research for you or us to take.   We can conduct desk-based research using our online access to millions of records, but are very happy to visit archives across the UK where necessary.

Is there anything we won’t do?  We won’t undertake work if it is outside our experience.  We won’t start work until we have an agreed budget and share a common understanding of what will be produced, when and what limitations there might be.  We won’t incur travel or incidental costs, or outsource any research, unless agreed in advance.  We don’t operate fixed price packages – every client and every family researched is unique.  See below for details of our fees and our commitment below.

House & Historic Building Research:

Have you ever thought about who lived in your house before you or when your house was built?  Every old house, even a suburban semi, has a history and a story to tell.  We can uncover the story of a house explaining when it was built, who lived there and how the area has changed.  The report will be illustrated and can be bound to a library standard. This can make a wonderful gift!  Prices depend on the age of the house.  Currently, we only provide this service for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire area.  Please contact us for further details.

Our Commitment:

Passion:

Our passion for family history inspires and pervades our work.  We love the challenge of unravelling a mystery or rediscovering the lives of unknown ancestors.  We bring this passion to all work performed for our clients.

Professional excellence:

Anyone can call themselves a professional genealogist.  But we think being a genealogist is more than just subscribing to Ancestry and that being a professional means more than just earning a living.  We have the benefit of both experience and academic qualifications in genealogy.  We have undertaken rigorous education in genealogy, having completed both a postgraduate certificate and postgraduate diploma in genealogy at the University of Strathclyde.  We belong to APG, a professional body representing genealogists and commit to follow their codes of practice.

Clearly written:

Not everybody understands the language of genealogy.  Our reports are clearly written so that they can be enjoyed by non experts.  A glossary is provided for any special or unusual terms that may be included in any historical documents.

Beautiful presentation:

We take great pride in achieving the highest standards of presentation, whatever the format of delivery.

Ethical standards:

We are registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office and ensure our standards of data protection comply with the stringent UK standards.  Our privacy policy sets out information we may hold.

Personally tailored service:

Every family is unique and every client wants something different.  We will work with you in determining what your research goals are and will deliver the agreed research on time and to budget.

Our Fees:

Our fees start at £35 per hour for desk-based research. Travel costs and possibly travel time (depending on location) will be charged for archive visits. Documentation when needed, for example birth, marriage and death certificates for England & Wales and pay-per-view online access for Scottish records will be charged at cost.
